1883: The Brooklyn Bridge linking Brooklyn with Manhattan was dedicated by President Chester Arthur and New York Governor Grover Cleveland.

HAPPY THOUGHTS – Rod Ertischek, a surprise visit from North Carolina; Anne's grandson graduated from West Point; Eric, Senior High School students Marissa Contento and Nicole Metzger were awarded our Rotary Scholarships at $1,500 each and will appear at a future meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS –20 Rotarians present.  Memorial Day Parade and Briarcliff Library Memorial Run/Walk to be held on May 27th. Those who are marching in Memorial Day Parade should meet at Mark Seidman's office around 11:30. The Installation Dinner is Monday, June 24 at Orfino's at 6:30 pm.

SPEAKER AND SUBJECT – Deputy NJ speaker and assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula

                                                                                         Summary of Talk

The speaker was informed and entertaining. He told his personal and political history. Knowing many languages is very important. English was his 4th language learned. We are all interconnected.  Much of his job is working with immigration people who want visas and Green Cards. In 2001 he was approved to run for office in New Jersey. He must be accessible to people who need help. To reach people he is happy to speek to organizations like Rotary. He has a remarkable memory. He got 60% of the vote to become Deputy Speaker.
