from Mark, our president

Hi All,

Well, our reservoirs are getting plenty of liquid and our grass and plants are happy! Just remember beyond the clouds the sun is still shining!

Last week Anne’s daughter Shonna inspired us with a talk on the work she is doing with Pre-K. After seeing what is involved in working with these 4-year-olds, it made me feel exhausted and definitely more grateful for those who take on that responsibility. This work is critical in preparing our children for their learning years ahead.

This week Kris, our new District Governor and our club member, has graciously agreed to come and share some of what he experienced at the recent International Rotary Convention. He asked that I bring a projector, so he can show us some of what took place. It should be an exciting and informative presentation, so please make extra effort to come. This would be a great opportunity to bring a guest, so they can understand what Rotary is doing in the world.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

President message for Friday July 20, 2018

Last week we had no official meeting, so nothing to report about that. I was out of town last Friday and not sure if any of you had lunch together at the Briars.

This week our guest speaker is Anne’s daughter Shona Cargill Gualtieri. She was the second Cargill born in the U.S. She attended the Tarrytown schools and graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School.  She received her BA degree in N-8 education from American International College in Springfield Mass. and immediately started teaching the early grades.  She then graduated from Fordham University with her MA and proceeded to become an expert in Pre-Kindergarten Education. She has stayed with this for the past twenty years and has been a Director of Universal Pre-Kindergarten Programs in Queens , the Bronx and now in  Lower Westchester. Her topic is “Assessing Universal Pre-Kindergarten Classes” and “CLASS” which stands for Classroom Assignment Scoring System.

Hope to see all !

from President Mark

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I hope you had a great 4th of July, celebrating our wonderful country, with a nice side dish of BBQ with family and friends.

Last week, as most of you know, we had a great meeting ushering in the new Rotary year with the installation of our Rotary Board, with good food and drink for all. Thanks to Rachael we had a delicious cake for desert, thank you Rachael!

We also had an incredible guest speaker, Dr. Erica Cargill Jones, who spoke on stress and heart health. Her approach to dealing with this is very holistic, which includes exercise, but with a strong emphasis on meditation as a healthy way to relieve stress on the heart. This was all backed with scientific evidence. I love her approach to living a healthy life, and you can see just by looking at her that she practices what she preaches. We are so blessed to be surrounded by amazing professionals, like Dr. Jones, who come to share with us what they have learned.

We will have a meeting tomorrow, and I would like to use this meeting to get to know each other better, so no speaker.  Maybe we can get one of our newer members to share a little bit about themselves?

Hope to see all of you tomorrow.

Mark J.
