SPEAKER AND SUBJECT – Lisa Howard – Rotary Ambassador Scholar from Barbados, Sustainability Management

Barbados is the eastern-most island of the West Indies.  The English settled the island in 1627.  Its population is predominantly black.  Yearly temperatures are the average of 79 degrees.  Bridgetown is the capital. Sugar is a chief crop and tourism is most important to its economy.  Lisa is the Rotary Ambassador Scholar for 2012-2013 from the Rotary Club of Barbados and is at Columbia University in NYC seeking a masters in sustainability management.  Although born in Barbados she speaks like a New Yorker.  During her first semester as a Rotary Ambassador Scholar in this Columbia University program, she knows she is in the best place for her.  Lisa connected with other ambassadorial scholars and the District Governor Greg Arcaro and Helen Lynch who also spoke to our club. As 2013 comes into focus she has become even more aware of the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” in her day to day actions.  Her passion in life is to help other people and to be involved.
