Briarcliff Highschool stars shine in to Rotary Club meeting

The Briarcliff Rotary Club was thrilled to have both these exceptional young women join us for a weekly meeting at our Club on June 14, 2013

On May 20th, 2013, Past President and Briarcliff Rotary Scholarship Chair Eric Lebenson had the honor of presenting two community service scholarships to more-than-worthy candidates.  Every year, the Briarcliff Rotary Club gives out these scholarships to Briarcliff High School seniors who have gone above and beyond their community service requirements.  In the case of these two winners, that certainly was the case, and it is apparent that they will both continue their community service efforts well beyond high school.
The Briarcliff Manor Rotary Leonard Young Community Service Award was given to Nicole Metzger.  Nikki has raised over $43,000 over the years as the founder and chair of Skate-a-Thon, a charity that focuses on raising monies for rare medical illnesses.  She also has spent countless hours working as the Co-Chair of Skating for the Special Olympics of CT.  Nikki will continue these efforts and many more charitable endeavors when she attends Washington University in St. Louis in the Fall.
The Briarcliff Manor Rotary Community Service Award was given to Marissa Contento.  Marissa, who will attend Cornell University this coming year, also was widely respected by the faculty at BHS and peers alike for all of her community service efforts.  Like Nikki, to only focus on two of her accomplishments is short-changing her, but:  Marissa has worked for over ten years with the Girl Scouts in projects that supported US soldiers in Iraq, veterans in local VA hospitals, and senior citizens in our community and in nursing homes.  She also founded the BHS chapter of the American Red Cross Club.
