SUMMARY OF TALK

India is about one third of the size of the United States but has three times as many people.  New Delhi is the capital.  In 1947 Great Britain granted India independence.  The actual head of government is the Prime Minister. He is chosen by the members of parliament which can put the Prime Minister out of office at any time.  The political system is unlike the United States, more like the British monarchy.  Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the primary head of state and not related to the late and famous Mohandas Gandhi.  Today powerful playwrights and popular actresses are in charge of the administration.

Friday – Assemblywoman Sandra Galef – What Went On in Albany
