Julio is happy to have served as president and to have members who have become good friends; Chris – happy that Ernie is recovering well from surgery; Dean, his birthday today; Zen, - anniversary; Sy – Mideast Gaza peace plan has never been closer; Ken – sending check to aid Japan.

ANNOUNCEMENTS – Installation Dinner is Tuesday, June 14th, 6:30 at the Briar’s Restaurant. The Rotary Club will be the only group using the Rec Center from now on.

SPEAKER AND SUBJECT – Thomas J. Lauro, P.E. - Our Endangered Environment

SUMMARY OF TALK –
Commissioner Lauro’s speech was about the County Department of Public Works which covers the curbside recycling guidelines and the changes as of June 2011. A new recycling facility is being built in Valhalla.

Blue recycling bins – plastics 3 – 7 have been added to the county’s list of mandated recyclables. Plastics now include food, beverage, detergent containers and caps, rinsed clean.

Brown paper bags – Newspapers, glossy inserts, phone books, magazines, junk mail, paper town and toilet paper tubes, non waxed cardboard boxes flattened and clean. No hardcover books.

Garbage collection should include kitty litter, dry cleaning plastic bags.

The County mobile shredder will be back in Briarcliff at 1111 Pleasantville Road in December 2011, date to be determined.
