SUMMARY OF TALK

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center was founded in Sleepy Hollow, New York by the families of the Rockefellers, Phelps, Dodge and the James Foundation. The first patients were admitted in 1956. The 1600 members of the hospital staff operate a vital, vibrant, not for profit full service hospital. The hospital is fully computerized, especially concerning medicines.

Phelps is affiliated with Mt. Sinai Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They have a state of the art Hyperbaric Chamber which deals with wound healing, temperature exposures, carbon monoxide exposure and smoke inhalation. They have a new state of the art Emergency Department with 32 private rooms and are also classified as a New York State Stroke Center with specialty physicians. Phelps has ambulatory care and hospice care on the premises as well as excellent rehabilitation services. Phelps has begun to have medical students come and have their first hands on learning experiences with patient care. Phelps has also been training physicians from other countries. Phelps is beginning the process of becoming a teaching hospital by 2012. In three words --- Phelps is tops. We are lucky to have it in our backyard.
