SPEAKER AND SUBJECT – Briarcliff Police Officer Tom Farrington on DARE (drug awareness resistance education) program.
SUMMARY OF TALK
Tom Farrington, on the police force for 26 years, is the police department's DARE officer. He was educated in the Briarcliff School System and leads the program in the fifth grade. He is fully aware of what is happening in our schools. The current main problem is the use of addictive prescriptive drugs although heroin and marijuana are still available. He spoke of bullying, cyber bullying. He teaches students how to say no to older siblings and to drug abuse in their lives. DARE shirts were given to them to remind them of what they were taught.
