SUMMARY OF TALK
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center has many smart Physicians. There are 200 applicants for every open position. It has recently become a teaching hospital for new M.D.s interested in family medicine. Many specialties are offered as well as new techniques. Mid-wives are available for pregnant women and they work under a physician’s guidance. Family medicine is another important specialty. Patients who come to Phelps are taken into treatment rooms and family are welcome to join the patients or in a family waiting room where there is a playroom for children. A newborn's mother has only one night of stay granted by most insurance companies but Phelps allows a second night for anxious new mothers at no cost. The prestigious Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is on the same campus as well as Kendall-on-Hudson Retirement facility which also has rehabilitative stays. Under Obamacare there will be a large loss of income and a nursing shortage. Phelps hopes to be able to provide for the possible shortage.
