SPEAKER RE OPEN DOOR HEALTH HELP: Julie Peskoe, Director of Strategy
for Open Door and lives in Briarcliff. She went to elementary and high
school in Mamaroneck, with a B.A. from Boston University and an MBA
(masters of business administration) from Columbia University.
SUMMARY OF TALK
She has been a member of Open Door since 1972. They now have over 500
members and mostly serve Westchester and Putnam Counties, mostly kids. She
trained at Phelps in physicians' school. Open Door is open six days a week
and includes two dentists in a van. Open Door has nine social workers. All
are volunteers, that is, they do not charge for their time. Most patients
come from Ossining and Port Chester, with about 90% below the poverty
level.

THIS FRIDAY we have Past District Governor Helen Lynch who will talk about
ROTARY.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: There is a Briarcliff Rotary fundraiser on Tuesday, June
14, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford,
which for $50 per person can have unlimited beer and wine, raffle and food
(via Eric) and (via Rachel) there will be the usual parade on Memorial
Day, Monday May 30, starting around noon (at the old barber shop) and pool
will be opened (Elinor and Sy will be visiting Cornell May 29, and coming
back home MAY 30, where their grandson (third generation at Cornell) will
be graduating, majoring in computer science (he already has a job at
MICROSOFT in Seattle) and minoring in Japanese (he is half Japanese but
that language was NOT spoken at home)). (Via Anne) Interact club at
Briarcliff high school needs volunteers for gardening project at Atria, Tuesday, 5/24 at 2:24PM Atria Briarcliff.

We meet every Friday at The Briar's Restaurant) on North State Road for

SPEAKERS. We had two on banking. First was Rebecca, who went to elementary
and high school in NYC and then majored in Finance at Manhattan Community
College. And Charles Dumas, a loan officer, at Tompkins Bank, branch in
Ossining,  with Rebecca, an assistant vice president. Hewento elementary
school and high school in Tuckahoe with B.S. in Business Affairs from
Univ. of Arizona.

SUMMARY OF TALKS
Tompkins has been a bank since 1836. It now has $63 or so billion with
four branches in Hudson Valley and one in Penn. It has been profitable all
this time. The millennials are the biggest depositors. Defined millennia as
born from 1981-2000, but most live with parents at home since, with loans
re college, cannot afford their own apartments although they have
children. Mostly, bank mortgages and do NOT sell them. The millennials look
at Internet and are interested in world affairs.

will be coming back from Cornell so will not be at parade).

HAPPY THOUGHTS
Dr. Bob Maher, ($20) There is a Board Meeting Wednesday, he is going to
The Captain Lawrence fund raiser, Friend Sylvester passed away and he
was a good friend of Stan.
Anne, she went to the Thursday Joint meeting
Stan is happy and he made a presentation at St. Christopher's
Sy is happy, and Elinor is stronger (she has MS)
Mark J. the same as Anne, plus a great Tuesday night
George, the speaker, is happy.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Via Rachel, rummage day at her church is next day, Stan and
Lou need badges.

Friday (tomorrow) is Rotary Senior Citizen Mothers' Day. Rotary will
provide food and serve. Entertainment via Frank Sinatra songs. Rachel will
provide the cake.

SPEAKER is George Behling on Yogurt. He went to elementary and high school
in Croton. Then got a B.A. in economics at Colgate and took some courses
towards his Masters at NYU before going into the Air Force.
                       SUMMARY OF TALK
He went into the Baking business in 1975 and started selling frozen Yogurt
in 1973. He needed a machine so bought an ice cream machine.  The store's
name was "Say Cheese."  It was a lot of fun but a lot of work. 95% of
customers were young girls. Yogurt was first served on plates then cones.
The popular flavors were Vanilla and Pina Colada. Yogurt was first eaten
by the Arabs. It is made from fermented milk. Then he went back to Wall
Street.

The seniors will be arriving at The Briar's restaurant early so get there
early to help. Otherwise, we meet at the restaurant for lunch. Elinor is a
mother, so she will be there in her wheelchair.

Dr. Bob Maher $20) again lauds Sylvester Williams who passed away, and was
a leader of Interact's St. Christopher and Stan Thompson's best friend, and
looks forward to the Annual Meeting on May 3 and Happy Birthday Sy (who is
92) (he sent a magnificent birthday present to Sy, with balloons and
chocolate covered fruit in a nice vas)and his son is getting married
Eric ($20) welcomes David and Janet, and Karen Smith, plus saw "Purple"
and remembers "Prince" and annual gala with professionals

Scott, next Saturday he will be attending and celebrating his son Alexander's Bar Mitzvah at CSI in Briarcliff (Approx. 9:30AM to 1:00PM - Lunch will be served (matzah - no bread on Passover) - ALL are welcome to come and join in his celebration & pride.
Scott will not be here on Friday plus a bar mitzvah plus happy birthday Sy and
Chelsea plus Anne will run meeting

Howard Penn is president of Ossining Rotary and gives $220 to our club via
a check.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: VIA Kris, ok re Saturday and joint meeting at Trattoria in
Pleasantville next Tuesday, Rachel Fire department has an open house on
Wednesday from 12-4. PDG David re Kris as future Governor.

SPEAKER: Alex Vestola on Briarcliff Manor Lodge. He went to elementary and
high school in Briarcliff, with a BA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies
from Vassar and a certificate  in museum studies from SUNY.
                              SUMMARY OF TALK
Had various pictures of lodge which he talked about. Lodge had famous
guests, including Johnny Weismuller, Elinor Roosevelt and Al Smith. The
lodge was built  by Walter Law to attract buyers of his real estate, the
farm having been moved northward. Its dining room was built in 1909 and a
famous chef, La Croix. Plus greenhouses with famous Briarcliff rose. It
also had a golf course which was later expanded to include what is now
Trump's golf course. Also a garage and its own power house. Plus croquet
for women plus tennis. With a costume ball in 1925. And views of the
Hudson River. It was built on the highest hill in Briarcliff which also
had a water tower for the village. Also a ballroom and libraries, and
with survivors of The Titanic as visitors. Walter Law loved the people who
came to his lodge.

Next Friday we have George Behling who will speak on the history of Yogurt.

Today is a joint meeting in Pleasantville.  Here are the details:

• Pleasantville would like to host a luncheon on Thursday April 28,2016.
  It will be held at,

  The cost of the luncheon will be $22.00 a three course meal. There is plenty of free parking.
  Rob Raylman, Executive Director of Gift of Life International will be our speaker.

Dear Briarcliff Rotarians, Friends & Guests,

Today's meeting should begin promptly at 12:15P as we have a full agenda.

By pleasant coincidence, we may have two (2) Past District Governors (PDG) on hand.

PDG, David Del Monte, to recognize our very own Kris Chittur for his efforts in supporting the District's Rotary Friendship Exchange, this past year, with Rotarians from Turkey and PDG, Janet DiBenedetto, to urge our Club's participation in next Thursday's Joint Club Meeting in Pleasantville.  The speaker, next Thursday will be Rob Raylman, The Executive Director of Gift of Life International.  Rob's story is beyond inspiring and is firsthand evidence of what we, as Rotarians, can accomplish.

of his best workers, plus prayer for him

SPEAKER: Phillip Zegerelli, Briarcliff Village Manager, in place of Mayor,
elementary and high schools in what is now Sleepy Hollow, then BA in
Government at Columbia, then a MIA in International Affairs, also from
Columbia.  He is a Navy vet who reached the rank of Lieutenant, and spent
time in Antarctica.
                           SUMMARY OF TALK
He spent all of his time talking about the new building (the pavilion) at
the pool, which was covered by insurance. Still investigating the cause of
the fire, which was started by a person. The mayor lost her father-in-law.
The new restaurateur will pay taxes. They closed the youth center on Macy
Road. The village lost two trees, Dogwoods. The Village Pool will open on time.
There will be a new kitchen plus 12 picnic tables and no stairs. the
village is in great shape. The Fire Department is made up of all
volunteers. The Fire Department does not cost the village any money. They
fixed all of the leaks in the Pavilion. The chief of police retired.

This coming Friday we have Alexander Vestola, who will speak about the
Briarcliff Lodge.
