A note from your president Mark

Hi Everyone,

I hope your week is going well and that you enjoy the long Holiday weekend.

Last Friday we had a wonderful joint meeting with Pleasantville Rotary at St. Chris’s, Jenny Clarkson campus. We met many of the wonderful staff members and heard about the Animal Therapy program with goats and chicken. The campus there was much nicer than I anticipated. Visiting this campus, one could see the fruit of Dr. Maher’s efforts over the last 14 years as the CEO there. Thank you, Bobby!

This past Monday was the Briarcliff High School awards ceremony, where scholarships were given out to deserving students. This year’s recipients of the two Briarcliff Rotary scholarships were Sam Lanoff, (we all know how great he is) and the Mr. Sajan Bar. Both these young men upheld the spirit of Rotary of “Service Above Self” throughout their high school years and, on that foundation, will continue to grow in their service to others. Anne Cargill represented our club well, as she gave a short speech and handed out the awards.  Thank you Anne for always being willing to help when needed!

One last note is that we WILL NOT have a meeting this Friday due to the Memorial Day weekend. I look forward to seeing each of you next week.

In memoriam Paul Rosen

A founding member of the Briarcliff Rotary Club and the long time friend of ours Paul Rosen passed away.        The funeral service will be held this Thursday March 15, 2018 from 2 pm on at the Congregation Sons of Israel, 1666 Pleasantville Rd, Briarcliff Manor .

Interact Club members at the Westchester Mall raising fund

I hope your week is going well and that you are enjoying the spirit of the
Holidays. It’s a lovely time of the year, with all the bright lights, food and
festivities! The other day, I visited Stanley and some of his Interact Club members
at the Westchester Mall, and witnessed first-hand how hard they are working to
raise funds through wrapping gifts for customers. I was inspired by the three
young ladies involved with this effort and could see how much benefit they have
received from St. Christopher’s and their involvement with Rotary. Thank you,
Stanley, for keeping these young folks engaged in service work, which helps them
grow.

Briarcliff Rotary presents Harlem Magic Masters

Last week we had Mary Seacor and Mikki Shaw sharing about the Ossining Micro Fund, an organization formed 14 years ago.  Each year this organization helps countless individuals and families with emergency no interest loans in the Westchester area. The very first donation they ever received in support of their good work was from the Ossining Rotary Club, which helped them get started. It’s always uplifting to know we have local non-profits helping those in need in our communities.           M. Johnson
