from President Mark

I hope all is well in your world! The good news is that school is over, with no yellow buses to curse at for a while!

Last week our guest speaker was Lionel Binnie, who gave a very exciting talk on the future of retail, based on his newly released book, Omni-Channel Retail; Predications in The Age of Amazon. It is available on Amazon if you are interested.

This Friday our speaker is
Hiroyuki Tosaka.  Mr. Tosaka is a native of Japan with a Bachelor of Law degree from Kokugakuin University in Tokyo. His profession: Educator of Leadership, Social Innovator. He loves to work with young people and just got back from Peru, heading up a campaign for the protection of Lake Titicaca. The title of his talk will be “Saving Lake Titicaca through building a new culture among young people.” He will also be showing slides from his work there.

A reminder that next Friday we will have our annual “Installation Lunch” for incoming officers, at the Briars, with great food and a wonderful guest speaker, Erica Cargill Jones. We have also invited Clare Rosen, Paul Rosen’s wife, to attend and will present her with a plaque of appreciation in remembrance of the great service Paul provided to our club as one of the founding members.

from president Mark

Hi Everyone,

I hope all is well in your world during! It is certainly a busy time as we transition from school days and graduations, to vacation time!

I am sorry to have missed last week’s meeting due to my work. Thank you Anne for running the meeting! I heard that Diane Pesce gave a very nice presentation about what is happening at the Briarcliff Library. I also heard that Diane is interested in possibly becoming a member of our club, so we will pursue this.

This past Sunday Kris Chittur was installed as our new District Governor. The event was great and well attended by members from our own club, as well as many others from around the district. Scott Lanoff did a great job as MC, keeping the whole event running smoothly. Congratulations to Kris and we want to wish you well in your new role.

I want to remind everyone that June 29th will be the day we install our club officers for the upcoming year. We will meet from noon at the Briars and share a special meal together. Our special guest will be Dr. Erica Cargill Jones, sharing about heart health, something that we all can benefit from. I also heard that Paul Rosen’s wife will come, so we can honor Paul during that time.

This Friday our guest speaker will be Lionel Binnie:
Lionel Binnie is a consumer products and food marketing consultant. He's been published in industry magazines and spoken at Fordham University Business Incubator, the ICSC (Intl Council of Shopping Centers), and American Association of Airport Executives. He is also a graduate of Fordham University.

He'll provide a brief summary of some key research and findings published in his recent book:
"The Future of Omni-Channel Retail: Predictions in the Age of Amazon."
Key Points:
  •     What types of shopping are most likely to move further to e-Commerce (online)
  •     What types of shopping is most likely to remain in physical, brick & mortar stores
  •     Why?
  •     What types of shopping malls will survive, long into the future, and why?
